WHEEL SPOTLIGHT: |
|
After years of lagging behind the competition with old-tech engines, bouncy suspensions and cramped interiors, Chevrolet revamped its midsize TrailBlazer in 2002 and turned it into a true class contender. But just because the TrailBlazer is finally in the race doesn't mean it wins it. Rugged and durable, the TrailBlazer has its roots in Chevy's Blazer line of vehicles, which has long provided transportation to those who take the "climb every mountain" maxim literally. The TrailBlazer is directly descended from the S-10 Blazer, a compact sport-ute that first appeared as a 1983 model. Based on the S-10 pickup truck introduced one year earlier, the S-10 Blazer shared most of its components and some sheet metal with that small pickup. Built on a short 100.5-inch wheelbase and available only in a two-door body style, the 'ute seated four; from the doors forward, its body was identical to the S-10 pickup, and aft of that was the wagon-style back of a utility vehicle. The rear end featured a drop-down tailgate and lift-up glass window. In 1991, a four-door S-10 Blazer appeared, just in time to serve up some competition to Ford's newly introduced Explorer (which was available with two doors or four). This new Blazer boasted a wheelbase nearly 7 inches longer than that of the two-door version, allowing much more room for rear-seat passengers. By 1999, sport-ute fever was burning hot. Chevrolet astutely surmised that buyers would appreciate a dash of luxury with their off-road transportation, and the TrailBlazer was born. This plush version of the four-door Blazer (by 1995, the "S-10" had been dropped from the 'ute's name) featured a two-tone leather interior, monotone exterior scheme and unique alloy wheels. Unfortunately, this early TrailBlazer didn't quite measure up to its competition, undermined by cavernous interior panel gaps, a dated exterior and decidedly subpar handling. Thankfully, things took a turn for the better in 2002, when the TrailBlazer benefited from a top-to-bottom overhaul. Every aspect of the vehicle was enhanced. There was more power under the hood, more style on the outside and more passenger and cargo room inside. While these improvements have certainly boosted the TrailBlazer's standing, they haven't sent it bolting to the head of its class. Its interior continues to be plagued by large gaps and cheap-looking plastics. And though its soft-tuned suspension makes for a cushy ride around town, it renders the vehicle difficult to control around hard corners and on bumpy terrain. The bottom line? If you can put up with the mushy handling and don't mind the drab cabin aesthetics, the TrailBlazer is a competent vehicle. But from our standpoint, there are even more competent vehicles for the same price or less, and it's hard to recommend the TrailBlazer.
We strive to continually bring you the largest selection of custom wheels and discount tires in the
nation at the lowest prices. Not only do we offer award-winning customer service but we also have a
skilled staff of technicians waiting to serve you with your custom wheel purchase. Our warehouses sell
our rims at savings up to 70% off of list prices and 30% less than our retail outlets. You can rest
assured knowing that all wheel and tire package fitments are verified with our technicians before ever
leaving our warehouse. Unless your car has been modified, all fitments are calculated off of the stock
specifications set forth for your vehicle. We use plus-sizing techniques to match up your new wheels
to stay as close to factory stock heights. In laymen\'s terms, you wheel gets bigger and your tire gets
smaller. If you are hesitant about a wheel and tire package purchase, allow us to mount and balance
the set and deliver it to your door ready to be installed onto your vehicle. We use state-of -the-art
hunter mounting and balancing equipment. When mounting we use chrome valve-stems, stick-on weights,
and road-force balancing equipment. We shrink-wrap and package the aftermarket wheels thoroughly for
shipping. All wheels and tires are insured during transit. If you are ordering wheel spinner adaptors,
they are generally shipped separately from the wheel for safety reasons. While we rely on our repeat
business from satisfied customers, we are always looking for new customers to add to our growing wheel
clientele. Do not settle for one of these fly-by-night companies on the internet that will nott be able
to promise what they deliver or provide service to you after the sale because they are no longer around.
We have been around for years and we plan on being around for many more years to serve our customers.
Just give us a call on our toll-free number!!
